Should I Get Ready Outside the Resort to Avoid Vendor Fees?

← Back to Blog

Most resorts in the Riviera Maya charge a vendor fee for outside wedding vendors to access the property — and it's a real inconvenience, since rates are high and often charged per vendor and even per person.

Some services, like hair and makeup, can be done off-site to avoid these fees. A few artists offer their own studio space, though extra fees or distance from your venue may apply. Another option is renting an Airbnb near your resort. So there are ways around it — but is it worth it? Here's how I'd weigh it.

Pros

You avoid the vendor fee, and you'll have a clean room for getting-ready photos when you return to the hotel.

Cons

You'll need 2–3 extra hours for transportation, you might get sweaty coming in and out of the AC, and it's one more thing to plan and coordinate.
